you saw the sun you saw the sun/ you thought it was god when you saw the sun

you raised that tool and spilled the blood/ you farmed the land you knew you had won

you counted the stars but you were the only one/ you built a wheel and carried on and on

you rode a wave until space was gone/ you learned the sea so you could cut and run


what have you done …


you dug up some gold and declared it law/you toppled the land but didn’t watch it fall

you lied and said he was the only son/ you wrote it down in stone for the museum

you stole the light and put it in a gun/ you stole the land you knew you had won

you put numbers to page and then god succumbed/ you bent waves of light and set foot to drum


what have you done …


you put some in chains to keep up the fun/ you put more in cages by the ton

you burned the decay and added up the sum/ you rode on the air and declared where you were from

you built to the sky just to stand above/ you blew up the world to show how far you’d come

you walked on the moon another ladder rung/ you bought up the waves for your serpent tongue


what have you done …


you cleaned it up pretty but for only some/ you pulled the wool tight until your eye was numb*

you heard some cry out and so you have begun/ to elevate your sins from underneath your thumb*

you put it all out from the mountain top/ you sang the loudest song that you can never stop*

you danced on the graves in the shade of the sun/ you danced on the graves to a modern anthem*
